Lean Curriculum & Certification Tech Group

This SME Tech Group helped to initiate and build the robust new Lean Certification in collaboration with The Association for Manufacturing Excellence and The Shingo Prize. The administration and governance of the certification has evolved from our initial team and on to a formal launch and sustaining team with continued guidance of the founding partners. We encourage you to consider enhancing your lean journey by getting on the Lean Certification Path if it meets your needs. If you are interested in volunteering expertise to the lean certification visit the Lean Certification Volunteer Center.

We are in the process of repurposing this Tech Group to connect and make visible many of the important lean educational paths and resources that might help an individual or enterprise along their lean learning journey. The Lean Certification offers outcome knowledge assessments and portfolio/mentoring resources specific to the certification. The certification DOES NOT PRESCRIBE A SPECIFIC CURRICULUM! There are many excellent books, classes, conferences, and organizations offering education for Lean. We will cast a broader net with this group to help learn what people are using, what seems to work, and where there are frustrations with the intent of making this site a place to surface a better view of the current state of lean in education and learning/teaching/mentoring lean in general. This is in full alignment with our original commitment that this tech group will develop and deploy a lean certification, with supporting curriculum that will:

  • Leverage the neutral position of SME.
  • Collaborate with world-class lean partners.
  • Establish the primary and authoritative source for lean knowledge.
  • Raise the bar for lean professionals.
  • Establish "standard work" by setting certification requirements. LAUNCHED! See:
    Lean Certification
  • Plan for continuous improvement of curriculum.
  • Help reduce the risk to any enterprise implementing lean with the aid of teachers and consultants.
  • Provide a recognized standard of knowledge for evaluation of proficiency in lean and related methods. Lean Certification

Always remember that Lean is an ongoing journey of human learning and improvement rather than a fixed destination.

Possibilities - For example - We could build or link to a matrix or database of universities/training organizations teaching lean. We could provide links to educational resources as well as post presentations and reports. Gathering feedback on lean educational experiences could be another function of this Tech Group.

We may want to collaborate with and help make visible the work of strongly related groups like the Lean Education Academic Network (LEAN)

This group has a tremendous opportunity to help people on their lean journey and learn a lot along the way. If you are interested in contributing or getting involved contact one of the Tech Group Advisors listed to the right.
